Description:
Noam Chomsky is a highly influential American linguist, philosopher and political activist. He is professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is considered by many to be the father of modern linguistics. He has also become known as an influential political activist and critic of US foreign policy as well as that of other countries. In addition to this, he is a key figure in contemporary philosophy as well as being a prolific writer. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

For the record, ...
For the record, this is not a TED talk. "X" is an offshoot of TED that can be run by virtually anyone who gets a license from TED. Chomsky has never been invited to a TED conference.

@Urna @mastr323 @Laurylyan While Chomsky holds to the theory of Anarchism, it's important to remember how factional anarchism can be. Chomsky has clarified his position by saying that any consistent anarchist is also a socialist. So yes, Chomsky is an anarchist. And yes, Chomsky is a socialist. As soon as the term Socialist can be separated from nightmares about the USSR, this won't be hard to grasp or controversial to assert.

I find it ...
I find it interesting to note that most of the watchers really need to put the sticker "Socialist" on Chomsky and then analyze his discourse in regard of that name tag. Is the name tag more important than the content of the discourse? Or is it easier to judge the name tag and then single-handedly disregard the content of the discourse? Very interesting....

@Ulrna Not in this case, since Chomsky is actually a socialist.

@mastr323 he ...
@mastr323 he recognises himself as an anarcho-anarchist. Calling him or anyone else today for that matter a socialist is almost as the same as calling a president a king.

A very interesting ...
A very interesting analysis on some of the instruments of influence in today's world. However the analysis does not go far enough with respect to the organized group of business interests. Part of the conclusion is there with reference to the bottom line of a corporation. However, it is not just one or two corporations that wield power rather that there is a group of corporations that are waging a global mindset of domination. That group is the power behind all global business decisions. The CFR

I somewhat enjoyed this rant. It certainly sounds very rant-like. The non-egalitarian state we're in, indeed, one of the most concerning things about the world today. But I should point out that he, and all speakers on the subject, completely blow over what would happen when the great majority won't take it anymore. I think it comes down to creative versus non-creative work. TED advertises value in creative work, but it isn't reciprocated by employers, and yet wages are stagnant.

Thanks for this, I was wondering when Ted was going to get Chomsky, he's just incredible. Isn't it amazing how much MNC's can get away with by calling anything that resembles worker's rights as socialism?
