How to make a flute - the project - part one

How to Make a Flute - The Project - PART ONE Here's where we get down to the task of making the side-blown (transverse) flute. After the last couple of blog posts/videos on the mathematical formula for finding the measurement of wavelengths of different notes (and thus, the length of a flute's body, as well as where to put the fingering holes), and the physics of what goes on inside a flute as to what happens to the air inside it while being played, the task now comes down to how to drill the holes and slowly expand them in order to precisely tune them. There is much more information in today's blog post here; rockfreakinsolid.com Please come and visit the blog, leave comments (constructive ones, please ^_~), subscribe to my video channel, and ask any questions you'd like on the blog. Thanks for watching, and be sure to see Part Two!!

Homemade fife

Homemade Fife so far this is my 2nd instrument that i made. heres the story behind the fife: one day my dad came home from work with a big, dirty, rusty piece of metal tube, and he he had an idea to make an instrument out of it (since i recently made my own oboe out of a bendy straw) so i said it would be cool, it was! not sure what key its in, but i had to do alot of fiddling around to get it to sound alright, i used an old sink plug for where a cork is suppost to go, i made a foot joint out of tape & cardboard, and a lip plate out of a rubber swiffer handle :-P and thats pretty much my story =]

Re: show me your homemade instruments

Re: SHOW ME YOUR HOMEMADE INSTRUMENTS Homemade fretless mountain banjo. Curly maple with rosewood tailpiece, nut, 5th string nut and violin style friction tuners. Bridge is curly maple with a coconut shell top (the curve of the shell creates a 'moon' style bridge with compensation built-in). Nylgut strings and a calfskin head stretched over a cast aluminium tone ring (a cut-down plant pot!). Tung oil finish. I have another one planned with lots of improvements.

Homemade guitar. part one.

Homemade Guitar. Part One. I made this a few months ago almost completely from scrap. The body is Indian teak (The hardest stuff I've ever worked with) from an old sail boat that was disassembled and put in a shed for about forty years before my dad retrieved it. The neck is an Ebay find and the metal components were cut from an old air conditioning unit. I hand carved the pickup bobbins from the same wood and hand (Scatter) wound them around AlNiCo magnets. Sorry my guitar playing isn't up to much but I still love to make instruments. For more information contact johncavanagh-at-gmail.com

A natural playground with musical instruments - child's play music

A natural playground with musical instruments - Child's Play Music childsplaymusic.com.au & www.facebook.com A video of a new natural playground with musical instruments at a school in Perth, Western Australia. First: my apologies for the wind noise - even with a windsock on the mic the 20 knot wind is very loud. I hope you can hear me and the instruments. The playground was designed and installed by Natural Play Environments, a Perth-based company with many years experience designing playgrounds that feature musical instruments. It's been designed for children aged 4 to 7 and it offers appropriate challenge and risk for the age-group. It's around 120 metres long by 20 metres wide and runs alongside a large open grassed area. The playground is situated in a section of remnant bushland and is very attractive. It features a long path that winds through the trees and shrubs and the path is sectioned into three areas each filled with a different material - two types of fine gravel and one section of white beach sand. I love the way that this playground is an organic extension of the play opportunities found in natural bush; children need and crave contact with the natural world and this playground supports that. The equipment is nestled into the bushland and is all custom built. As well as climbing equipment and a slide there are a variety of sensory play, imaginative play and science play activities. I particularly like the sand wheel (pour sand through the top and it turns a wheel before pouring through a sifting grid which traps and large ...
